Long avoided because it's considered a source of harmful saturated fats, research is starting to show that coconut oil may actually be a source of healthy fats, along with being a versatile ingredient that has dozens of uses beyond cooking.
Because coconut oil is solid at room temperature, it makes a great substitute for butter, margarine, or other spreads a great alternative for anyone choosing a vegan lifestyle.
So beyond the kitchen we wanted to know what else you can use it for, and here's what we've found.
Improves energy and endurance. Coconut oil is easy to digest, but also produces a longer sustained energy and increases your metabolism.
Using coconut oil benefits your hormones as well! Coconut oil may help naturally balance hormones because it’s a great source of saturated fat including lauric acid. Studies have found that coconut oil may be an excellent fat to consume during menopause and also may have positives effects on estrogen levels.
How about beauty uses?
If you have dandruff or of those pesky fly aways coconut oil has the perfect fatty acids to help improve these conditions. You can make homemade coconut lavender shampoo to improve your hair and use straight coconut oil as an all natural hair conditioner. Rub a pea size amount of coconut oil between your fingers to warm it up, and then apply it to the bottom couple inches of your hair for all day frizz protection. If you have thicker, coarser hair, apply the coconut oil from mid-shaft to ends for added frizz control. Bonus: It also leaves hair extra shiny and soft!
To get rid of dandruff and to thicken hair massage 1 tbsp coconut oil mixed with 10 drops of rosemary essential oil into your scalp for 3 minutes. Then shower 30 minutes late
