In a recent Facebook post, we posted how celebs get beautiful lashes. Eyelash extensions have been around for years and years, starting as early as 1916. The technology of eyelash extensions has evolved over the years to what we see today. There are many different types, from DIY temporary strips to a more semi-permanent solution by seeing a professional to have them applied.
Everyone gets them. Ranging from your stay at home mom to the fashion forward working woman. Eyelash extensions are easy, no hassle and make you look “put together” without trying. It’s no wonder the craze to have “more, longer and thicker” eyelashes is so popular.
Here is the low down on eyelash extensions before you take the plunge.
Who are they for?
Those who want length and thickness to their lashes, without having to apply mascara. Your technician will do an initial consultation, analyzing your lifestyle and your natural lashes to come up with what length, curl, thickness and pattern will give the most flattering effect for your eye shape.
What are they?
Eyelash extensions are made up of a synthetic material, mink and silk. We use Xtremelash. The eyelashes are made up of faux mink- creating a lightweight natural feel.
How are they applied?
The eyelashes are applied one by one to each individual natural lash. Natural lashes are isolated (individually), then an extension is glued to the natural lash 1mm away from the base of the lash. Individually isolating the lashes reduces your chance of irritation (touching the eyelid) or pulling (when multiple natural lashes are adhered to the extension- this results in long term lash damage).
Xtremelash has two kinds of glue (both of which are formaldehyde free!): a basic adhesive and adhesive for sensitive eyes.
How long do the extensions last?
A full set of lash extensions can last you 4-6 weeks. It is ideal to come for fills every 2-3 weeks to maintain the fullness. Eyelashes regenerate regularly. You have “baby lashes”, “teen lashes” and “adult lashes”. The extensions are adhered to “teen” and “adult” lashes. Extensions are not adhered to “baby lashes” as they are too fine and not able to support an extension. When the “adult lash” falls out a “baby lash” replaces the “adult lash”, continuing the natural growth cycle. You can lose up to 20% of your natural eyelashes in two weeks. Thus it’s recommended to have fills regularly.
Your first set is usually 1.5-2hours in duration. Where fills are only 30 minutes-1hour.
In a fill, extensions that are grown out are replaced with a new extension close to the base of the lash to keep the fullness. Extensions are also adhered to “teen lashes” that were “baby lashes” in your initial set.
Benefits of the lashes?
Being able to wake up with full, luxurious lashes without having to apply mascara! Great for those who have fair eyelashes as the dark color of the lash shapes the eyes making them stand out more!
The most important thing is to do your research and ask questions!
