Its bathing suit season!
This can either be exciting or dreadful. When its dreadful, don't get discouraged! Negative self talk can only make the situation worse. Remember every body is normal (and every body has a story).
With our busy lives how do we boost our confidence to feel amazing in a bathing suit? (and quick!)
Set aside a few minutes and try these simple tips! you can continue it throughout the summer or whenever you feel the need for a little beauty boost!
Movement! We all know that exercise is important- it can help you burn fat, tone up, increase energy and more. But what's extra important is it helps you boost your mood and wellbeing (hello feel good enzymes!). Those who exercise have a more positive perspective on life and towards their own bodies (less negative self talk). Note: Negative self talk alerts your brain to think its "stressed" therefore shutting down your parasympathetic nervous system (responsible for relaxation) and kicking your sympathetic nervous system into high gear, alerting your body for the fight or flight response. Cortisol is released, your body reroutes its basic life needs to get you ready to run, the heart rate goes up, and your body stores any excess energy into storage (ie: fat). People who are chronically in a stressed state will experience a consistent low level of cortisol being released which can affect your fat burning ability. (*Health coaching can help you destress and provide you with tips to increase fat burning. Send us a message for a consult!) All you need is 30 minutes a day and 3 days a week to work up a sweat (if you are able to do more, great! if not, don't sweat it. haha) This is enough to increase your wellbeing and confidence drastically. You can do any kind of movement that you find fun- yoga, running, weights, crossfit, walking, rollerblading, kayaking, dancing, etc... So go have fun working up a sweat!
2. Water! Water! Water! This is my favorite one. How many cups of water do you drink in a day? The rule of thumb is to drink half your body weight in ounces of water per day (more if your active). So if you weigh 150lbs- you should be drinking 75oz of water a day (about 9 cups a day or 4.4- 500ml water bottles a day).
The benefit to drinking water is that it reduces bloat, helps lessen the appearance of cellulite, purifies the body and help nutrients absorb efficiently (and many more reasons). You can add sliced strawberries, lemon, mint leaves, oranges or lime to make it flavorful. Avoid sucrose, sucralose or aspartame as artificial sweeteners can cause bloating and excess gas.
You can do this the night before "beach day". Scrub your entire body bottom to top. It helps move lymph and toxins in the body to help give the appearance of smoother toned skin. Make your own scrub at home using sugar, oil and essential oils. My favorite for summer is a coffee scrub (in the morning to wake up).
1 cup of sugar
1/2 cup of coffee grounds
1 cup of coconut oil, liquid
mix in a jar and keep it for a week. Scrub areas prone to cellulite to help tighten and smooth these areas.
4. Use self tanner
Tanned skin appears more toned. It creates emphasized shadowing in areas that you want to appear more toned and helps smooth out troublesome areas (back of the legs, tummy, arms). There are some excellent self tanners out there (Jane Iredale, St.Tropez, Jergans gradual glow...etc).
5. Do something with your hair! "What does my hair have to do with wearing a bathing suit?" When we see only half the outfit we tend to judge before its finished. Even if its just a bathing suit, put the whole outfit together. If you have natural waves or curls, let them go free and wild. If you have straight hair put it in a cute braid. You will just see the whole look come together beautifully. You can even wear bracelets, anklets or a cute necklace. Its whatever you desire.
Last but not least! If you still don't want to wear a bathing suit, go get a super cute beach cover. Something a little sheer, can still cover but leaves people wondering what you have on underneath. A little riske but fun!
Now your beach ready, gorgeous!
